Another beautiful "winter" day here in ABQ. Luke and i took a long walk today and met many friendly people and dogs along the way. However, we also had TWO run ins with unfriendly pooches. It is always a shock to me that the owners of these dogs seemingly haven't taken their dogs to training for some social adjustment. Clearly the Dog Whisperer would know what to do. Even more surprising is the way in which these owners often deal with the rest of us. As we were walking on a thin trail today and quickly approached a woman and her medium sized dog I spoke up a "Good Morning" as the woman who had seen us coming seemed to not note our close proximity. When i said this just feet within her and her dog she proclaimed, "My dog isn't friendly." So i asked, "oh, well may we get by please?" She said WE could go the other way. Clearly, if you have the dog who is NOT adjusted it seems it is YOUR responsibility to avoid the rest of us. So i stated this to her and passed by in a bit of shock. If your dog is aggressive and out in a public space I am afraid that the safety of the rest of us is in your corner. Should i be out with a small child, unleashed, who were to run toward a dog who is "unfriendly" would you want to be responsible for a maimed human being? TAKE CLASSES...an unadjusted animal doesn't have to remain aggressive.
